French Country House


This project involved the complete transformation of an existing Pebble Beach property: what was once a suburban ranch home became a chartreuse, a type of single-story French country house with a central wing and flanking pavilions arranged around a three-sided entry court.
The buildings’ exteriors maintain a traditional French palette with slate roofs, stucco walls, woad blue shutters, and stone trims.
To the north, an oval clearing and other curves accommodate a boules court and clusters of existing trees. Mediterranean plantings soften transitions throughout.
Door detail
The rooms off the hall have distinctive ceiling forms and extend the exterior’s Gallic themes with parquet de Versailles, antique fireplaces, and other interior flourishes.

The informal dining room opens to both the kitchen and terrace.
The paired French doors of the library face the lawn and a stone-bordered rill leading to a circular fountain.
